Robert van den Berge studied photography in the Hague (Holland). Then he moved on to Brussels where he worked as an advertising photographer for various international clients. His specialisation was food & still life.
After seven years he put his cameras aside and became a Buddhist monk. In India he picked up photography again, while working as a volunteer in the Tibetan Government in Exile giving photography courses.
Confronted with the Tibetan situation he started photographing the misery surrounding him. Gave back his vows after two and a half years and started free-lancing in New-Delhi for clients as AFP, Time magazine, The Daily Telegraph Magazine and the French daily Liberation and he currently works for various press-agencies including ANP, Corbis/Sygma and a regional daily. A part of his work is represented by SYGMA in Paris.

Robert van den Berge studeerde fotografie in Den Haag. Na zijn studies werkte hij als reclame fotograaf in Brussel, zijn specialisatie was stillevens en "food". Na zeven jaar legde hij zijn cameras neer en werd boeddhistisch monnik. In India begon hij terug met fotografie en gaf hij, als vrijwilliger, fotografie cursussen in de Tibetaanse regering in Ballingschap.
Geconfronteerd met de Tibetaanse situatie begon hij de hem omringende ellende te fotograferen. Na twee en een half jaar gaf hij zijn geloften terug en begon te free-lancen in New Delhi voor klanten als AFP, Time Magazine, The Daily Telegraph Magazine en de Franse krant Liberation en op het ogenblik werkt hij voor verscheidene pers-agentschappen waaronder ANP, Corbis/Sygma en een regionaal dagblad.
Een gedeelte van zijn werk wordt vertegenwoordigd door SYGMA in Parijs.
